Irwin (Irv) S. Rothenberg serves in a client development role in Buckingham Strategic Wealth’s Santa Rosa office. With more than 40 years of experience in the financial advisory industry, Irv enjoys meeting with and learning about prospective clients’ wealth management needs and to help them find an ideal fit with a Buckingham advisor.
Irv founded Wealth Management Consultants, LLC in Santa Rosa, Calif. in 1995 and merged with Buckingham in 2010. Prior to that, he spent 6 years directing the financial planning department at Pisenti & Brinker LLP and 15 years as a Partner-in-Charge at the international accounting firm of BDO Seidman.
Irv specializes in helping families manage their resources, with a focus on wealth transfer techniques, charitable giving tools, and retirement withdrawal planning. He was one of the first CPAs in the United States to obtain the professional designation of Personal Financial Specialist granted by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
He is an experienced speaker and has instructed numerous courses in taxation and wealth management for the AICPA and the Colorado and California CPA Societies, as well as numerous civic and educational organizations.
Currently he serves on the board of the Sonoma State University Academic Foundation, the IAC of the Community Foundation Sonoma County and the California Society of CPAs Committee on Personal Financial Planning. Irv is also the president of the Sutter Health Santa Rosa Medical Foundation and a member of the Endowments and Gifts program at Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa. Recently Irv served on the Board of National Endowment for Financial Education, the AICPA PFP Executive Committee, Chairman of the AICPA PFP Conference and on the Green Music Center Foundation.
Irv was honored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as the recipient of the Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award which is presented to the AICPA volunteer who significantly contributes to the advancement of personal financial planning as a practice discipline.
Irv is a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is married and has two grown children: son Steven, a pediatric surgeon in Denver and daughter Karly, a working actress and teacher in Los Angeles. Irv’s late wife,Coleen, was also an actress active in the Santa Rosa community. Irv is an avid sailor and golfer and loves to play jazz piano for fun. He is originally from Brooklyn, New York, and comes from three generations of bakers starting with his great grandfather in Romania.
