As a child, Tim Cowhey witnessed much of his family’s life work disappear due to poor financial advice — not properly diversifying a concentrated stock position combined with a downturn in that stock. This firsthand experience motivated Tim to educate himself on financial planning so that he could not only ensure his own financial well-being but help others to safeguard their futures.
Tim’s role as a wealth advisor includes working on portfolio implementation, rebalancing, and tax harvesting. In addition to monitoring client portfolios, he also assists in creating clients’ wealth analyses, which provide guidance on a variety of topics including risk management, gifting strategies, legacy planning and risk tolerance. The most enjoyable part of Tim’s day is interacting with clients and learning about their lives, both personally and professionally.
Before joining Buckingham Strategic Wealth, he worked for Morgan Stanley, The Office for Financial Success and Northwestern Mutual. Tim holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri.
A St. Louis native, Tim lives in Maplewood and serves as a board member for the Ladue Education Foundation and the St. Louis BMW Car Club of America. In his spare time, he competes in road racing events and serves as a high-performance driving instructor.
